Mr. C.A. Thompson
is one of the most successful members of the bar in this city. His
years have been spent in careful study and active practice of his
profession, and as a young man he is possessed of more than ordinary
legal ability, having attained a high place in the estimation of his
associates and the public generally.
Mr. Thompson is a native
of West Virginia, and was born September 4th, 1870,
removing to Ironton with his parents when but two years of age. He
graduated from the city high school in 1886, and after teaching
school a short period in West Virginia he returned to Ohio and was
employed on the engineering corps of the C.H. & D. R’y Co.,
beginning as a stake driver and finishing as level man.
From 1887 to 1889 he
attended the Ohio State University, and the following year was
employed by Lawrence County making maps for the decennial real
estate appraisement. Returning to the University he graduated with
honors in 1892. After spending two years teaching school at Bement,
Illinois, during which time he read law, he returned for a third
time to the University, and in 1895 graduated from the law
department with the highest honors of his class. The same year he
began practice in Ironton and the following year was appointed to
fill an un-expired term as city solicitor, to which position he was
elected in the spring of 1897 for a term ending in 1899. Mr.
Thompson has well earned all that he has attained by untiring effort
and energy.
