Taken from “The Headlight” no date given

Submitted by: Robert Kingrey

Among those whose art and appliances justify recognition and special mention is James T. Egerton, the county Surveyor of Lawrence County. Mr. Egerton is a product of Ironton, being born in this city September 5th, 1859. He was educated in the public schools of the city and received his engineering education in the office of the Ironton City Engineer, Mr. J. R.C. Brown, one of the most thorough and practical engineers in the country.

In November 1887, Mr. Egerton was elected county Surveyor and is now serving his fourth term in that office. The building of the Lawrence County turnpikes, which are considered among the best in the state, has been under his direct supervision and in this capacity he has established an enviable reputation. He has recently been engaged by the commissioners of Gallia County to superintend the building of their new system of turnpikes.
